PWC Listen

Design Systems

Over the past several years, I have been involved in various design system projects, ranging from enhancing and modernizing existing systems to spearheading the development of entirely new design systems.

Below, I present a selection of key design system projects that I have overseen, listed from the most recent to the earliest:

Enterprise Survey & Analytics SaaS application

I led a team of designers based in the US and India, to update PWC Listen, which is a survey and analytics SaaS application, used by Price Waterhouse Cooper’s consultants, as well as provided as a service to clients. It is focused on surveying and analyzing Customer Experience, Employee Experience, and IT Experience data. Our focus was to improve the application and build new features to better compete with Medailla and Qualtrics.

As part of the project, we updated the existing PWC application design system.

T. Rowe Price

B2C, Finance, Japan,

Japan/APAC microsites and Design System updates

Managed the design process for multiple Japan/APAC websites and enhanced the Beacon design system to align with the preferences of T. Rowe's new audience. This effort included utilizing tokens for all design elements, including motion, and integrating animation tools such as Lotte. The main objective was to migrate the APAC websites to the global AEM (Adobe Experience Management) platform, guaranteeing a unified customer experience while reducing expenses by 40% by eliminating the need for local partners for maintenance and updates.

Wells Fargo

A mobile application for Wells Fargo’s affluent segment

I led a team of designers based in the US and Poland to craft a mobile experience for Wells Fargo’s affluent segment. We crafted the onboarding, account summary, collaboration, benefits, and offers experiences within a unified app interface, utilizing Wells Fargo's dynamic design system. Throughout the project, we tailored the design system to suit our requirements by integrating colors, imagery, and layouts.

Northern Trust: Investment Outsourcing

Facilitating a transition in employee workflows from reactive to proactive.

During my time at Inspire11, I oversaw a team of strategists and UX designers in developing a set of web-based analytics applications for different back-office areas within Northern's organization amidst a significant digital transformation. As part of the project, we improved Northern Trust’s design system, specifically around data visualizations.

Autodesk: Shotgun Design System

Multi-Context Design System for Shotgun

B2C, Film/VFX,

While leading the Autodesk Media & Entertainment product design team, I was given a challenging problem:  We need to redesign a multi-platform 10-year-old SaaS product for the industry, but it is used every day by thousands who do not embrace change so well.

We started a large endeavor we called the Shotgun Design System. Our goal was to unify the experience for users, even if they were moving between web, desktop, mobile, tablet, and software plugins. The challenge was the platform used many different technologies, from React to QT4.

Zurich Insurance

Developed a design system for Guidewire applications

B2B Financial Services

I led a small team to help Zurich build a design system for their many applications built on the Guidewire platform. The design system included a set o components, guidelines and guiding principles.

I led the work my team did on creating a common Design System for the many divisions of the company. Built on React and Material Design, the creation of Carbonate was a joint venture between the Design and Engineering teams. It was designed to eliminate the use of multiple third-party libraries that were previously utilized across the organization. Carbonate now serves as a single, unified presentation layer for all web applications.

We implemented Zeroheight to manage our Carbonate documentation, which is a great design system publication tool. This drastically reduced the time it took to ship new features and eliminated the need to build each component from scratch. To make this transition easier, we provided engineering education and cultural encouragement to ensure a successful transition to an enterprise-level workflow. Additionally, Zeroheight was used to centralize design guidance rules for the data visualization tools we were using at the time. This enabled us to consistently use the same tools, even before we consolidated our engineering tooling.

Learning Management System

Led a small startup team to develop a Design System and learning site

B2C, Learning

In early 2022, I held a temporary Product Design Director role for a leading Learning Management start-up. The organization needed a design leader to help lead them through two key initiatives; the design of a new learning site to compete with competitors like Coursera and Udemy, as well as an organizational design system for new development as well as for legacy sites.
